Welcome to the town at the foot of Daisestsu-zan.
Higashikawa has unique natural characteristics, such as diverse alpine flowers and beautiful snow crystals. However the local community is even more interesting. There are not so many locals who can speak English, but you may need their help to find what you are looking for.
And, there is uniqueness also in a root regional culture where it sits there in the Higashikawa. Indigenous people Ainu who has continued living that harmonizes with nature before development. Artist and people in restaurant who compete and have migrated charm beautifully of farmer and nature that reclaims, extends for generations how many, and is defense of field...
The people who are continuing such a unique activity bring up, and the relation between "Person and person" and "Person and nature" is expressed plainly.

I am a Dosanko(was born and grew up in Hokkaido), but lived in New Zealand while I was a high school and University student with studying national park management and nature conservation. Now I am working a nature guide as well as a park ranger. I like having a nap in the forest with a little fire.

I was born and brought up in Tokyo. Upon graduation from university and working for several years, I traveled and lived around Europe, Asia, and New Zealand. After that, while wandering throughout Hokkaido, I met my husband, Osamu MIYAMA, a photographer. I weave baskets and lamps out of driftwood. We have our own gallery 'Kitashajin' where you can see many beautiful photographs of Hokkaido nature as well as my work.

I was born in Nagasaki, Kyushu, southern part oxf Japan. After camping around the U.S, I moved to Hokkaido 13 years ago with my partner who is a woodworker. We wanted to live in spacious countryside. I teach English to kids and adults. I like camping and traveling. I also like going to small concerts held at bars and cafes.
